This is the show where we get into the minds of successful domain name investors – people we call Sherpas – and talk about the value of specific domain names. By listening to the Sherpas, we expand our thought process so we can become more successful investors ourselves.
In this DomainSherpa Review:
- We learn what the Sherpas bought or sold recently: WOD.com, LiveVentures.com, AmericanRooster.com
- An investor’s portfolio is appraised: Isodon.com, AlcoholOffers.com, AmericaDecidez.com…
- Get your bids in soon for these NameJet auctions: MedicalExam.com, DoWork.com, LuxuryGetaways.com…
- And much more!
We’re joined by three Domain Sherpas: Joe Uddeme, Shane Cultra, Andrew Rosener.

Great Show ,great to see Shane and Joe back, would love to see another another square for another guest added and Tess be on top. Tess your doing a great Job.
Educational show. New investors really need to take heed to the advice given. So many are burning money(and time trying to market) on domains that a business would never want.
Those registration and renewal costs add up. Even if you are spending more than reg fee, you really have to educate yourself and make sure you “get it”, or you’ll end up burning money, just at a faster rate.
Great insights as usual Tess and Sherpas. Thanks for sharing. Please could you share which Chinese Aftermarket platform the 3L.com’s were selling on? Thanks! Arpen
Great Show – thanks!
But note that the link for the mp3 file is for the wrong show…
Oh no! Updated… https://www.domainsherpa.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/20181008.mp3
I have been a fan since day one. Thanks guys for keeping the legacy going. But, I think I know now, how the portfolios are chosen. They are pre-sorted and absolutely the worst are the ones to be picked for review. Surely, there are dozens in the queue if not hundreds, but they keep getting worse. Am I right?
Oh man, I wish that were true! I do pre-sort, and pick out the BEST names… Please, send over your portfolio and we can have some of higher caliber?
Thanks Sherpas for the enjoyable show! I thought the investor who submitted names for review received some good advice too. Many of us have learned similar lessons along the way! :-) Cheers, Carl
One of the better shows this year.
What is Travis’ website Shane?
Thanks in advance
I think I said it wrong. Travis, Josh, and I all are partners at DSAD.com. Travis manages the technical side
Thanks
WOD is a thing – Workout of the Day – appears well-known to fitness types
Good catch on Workout of the Day! I was thinking more along the lines of Weed of the Day! But thats just me!
Great show today, Joe, Shane, Drew and Tess! ?
Thanks for the shout-out, guys! ❤️
Yes, my dog can run fast! ?
The advice given after the investor submitted portfolio was fantastic:
1) If NO OTHER extensions are registered (especially .co.uk, according to Josh and Shane at DSAD.com), then it’s likely not a good investment (i.e. no value) — (I’ll add — unless you’re the first to discover something like bitcoin, recreational drones, new strains of cannabis, etc.).
2) Stick to two (real) word domains that can be a name for an IPA beer (or that a company would use as a brand).
3) Don’t invest in names that put your name in-line with other extensions of equal value (secretescapez.com vs secretescapes.co vs secretescapes.io, etc.), because it’s easy to find an alternative rather than pay your retail price.
4) If you’re buying a name that’s not the proper spelling and the proper spelling version is not worth $500,000 or more, then it’s not worth investing in. For example, if the domain name is with a “z” instead of an “s” (like secretescapez.com) and secretescapes.com is not worth at least $500,000 then secretescapez.com is not worth investing in because it’s worth around 1/10th of 1%. Calculated: (0.1 x .01 x $500,000 = $500) (This is a rough estimate, of course.)
Thanks for your donation to cancer research, Michael. You’re awesome. And I would definitely take Joe Uddeme up on his very gracious offer to spend a few minutes with you by telephone. Getting inside the mind of a successful domain name investor or broker is priceless.
That’s a perfect drill down Michael. I expect this after every show (add emoji of some kind here)
What Cyger said…
So the .co.uk thing is really just a time saver to quickly find value. Sure there can be value without that extension registered, but if you want to find a few good names quick you can narrow the search by looking at names that have their co.uk counterpart registered. You can also look at .ca or com.au, or any extension whose primary language is English. .DE is also worth looking at, since there’s a ton of domain registrations both Auf Deutsche and in English. Obviously if you were looking for a domain in another language CC Tld’s that speak that language might be helpful.
I found a few domains that use the keywords from the user submitted list and that are currently available. All of these were registered in the past. These domains might not be great, but are better (imo) than the submitted list and have a higher, not guaranteed, chance of selling for the right price.
