Go down the domain & crypto rabbit hole with Bitcoin developer & evangelist, Jimmy Song! In followup to our Charlie Shrem interview, we’re continuing our examination of the unique overlap of crypto and domains. Jimmy is joined by Andrew Rosener, global expert in the domain name market and domain valuations. We explore every rabbit hole :
- Living an Antifragile Life
- Is the domain DNS system a potential Achilles heel for crypto’s transactional security?
- How Jimmy’s Bitcoin quote applies to domain name values: “Credible long-term scarcity is why people buy Bitcoin. In other words, people want Bitcoins because they see it as a good store of value.”
- Jimmy’s famous “magical blockchain dust” comment: Jimmy and Andrew’s thoughts on the 3-5 year trajectory of end-users’ disconnect in understanding crypto and domain name values
- The crypto industry’s domain acquisitions: from .io to .com domain names
- Finally, a mega rabbit hole about how many crypto enthusiasts apply the antifragility lifestyle to their dietary habits
Investors and entrepreneurs who are curious about- or preparing for- the future will benefit from today’s show!

Cool to see Jimmy Song on here! Go Bitcoin maximalists!
Just want to quickly point out some of the largest ICO’s:
Filecoin — $257 million : https://filecoin.io/
Dragon Coin — $320 million : https://drgtoken.io/
built on .io domains! I don’t know anything about Dragon Coin but Filecoin is no scam and has some great tech behind it.
Also, DNS should be on the blockchain – the internet won’t be truly free until it is!
So let me get this straight Jimmy Song…something going from 20k to 3.3k in less than a year is the answer to Sound Money?
I would stick to the Blockchain and reevaluate your Bitcoin position…
Thanks Tess, jimmy, and Drew! Great show! I especially like the side track at the end about nutrition. Always good to hear from people that take their nutrition seriously like I do.
Hi..
This episode was more about crypto and it’s impacts on economy…than domains…
This is good one..but very deep into technical terms..far for normal domainers…
Thought I was listening to some episode of Planet Money / Freakonomics… :)
Hoping to see lot of episodes and detailed coverage of NamesCon…
Thanks
Great show!!!
Please stick to talking about domains on this show!
(That last 15 minutes discussion about nutrition was embarrassing, disappointing, and cringe to hear. So much mis-information and mis-understanding of evolution. Sad. Please do some research to find out what the majority of professional, university educated, dietitians eat in their regular diets. We suggest people wanting to know about domains ask domain industry experts… We should also seek out advice from science-based university educated dietitians to learn about what’s healthy to eat.)
I found the food discussion more interesting than the bitcoin discussion. Your pretentious and douchey comment was the only thing cringy to hear. oh my name is Rajesh I read more than you and research more than you. All the research you have done was nonsense, because me name is Rajesh and only I know how to research. Looky at me, I’m so smart. I’m smarty smart smart.
I didn’t claim to have the answers myself. I suggested “ask the experts”. i.e. Find out what dietitians are eating and saying about what’s healthy and what’s not.
I don’t claim to be an expert in diet (or domains for that matter). Drew and the Media Options team are domain experts, and so I look to them for when I want to learn about domain investing. And I look to professional dietitians when I want to learn about diet/nutrition.
I also wouldn’t watch a dietitian web show to hear advice about domain investing, would you? (There’s some percentage likelihood that they wouldn’t have an expert level of understanding of domains. Ditto a domain show talking about diet.)
Stop trying to backtrack Genius Rajesh, your words are right there. Words like “Please do some research”, the only meaning for that is they did Zero research, since they didn’t even do “some”.
Dudes wife is a nutritionist, but I guess nutritionist are all dummies compared to Genius Rajesh. Genius Rajesh knows more than all of them, Genius Rajesh may not know the answers, but he’s so smarty smart smart he knows all nutritionist are not smarty smart smart like him. He’s sooooo smart, oh my god soooooo smart.
I do wish that the discussion stayed on domains too. It must be really difficult to come up with content, also be entertaining and informative, and do it regularly… all on the topic of domains. I couldn’t do it!
There’s a balance, because even when Chris Zuiker is on and it’s 100% domains it’s way too dry for me. Miss the banter with Shane, Ali, and all the other folks who used to come on.
Would be great if web development and monetization of domains was a bigger part of the discussion.
Wish everyone the best.
Actually, I found this to be one of the most interesting and entertaining segments.
I did not know very much about bitcoin.
As someone who regularly goes to the gym I have been exposed to information of the effects of diet and supplements on people.
Matt –
Your comments (and similar comments) are noted. We knew there would be some pushback regarding the non-domain related content.
However, I believe that in order to be a great domain investor you need at an absolute minimum a well rounded knowledge base, particularly regarding emerging growth sectors and technologies as this is where the money flows with time.
As I always say, ALL ROADS LEAD TO DOMAINS.
Further, helping the crypto community to understand that domain names are the first digital asset will grow the pie for everyone.
Plus, at the end of the day, I’m paying for the microphone and I want to discuss anything I find interesting or relevant. We give the content away for free (for now) so I feel entitled to publish whatever we feel is interesting.
But feedback from the audience is always welcome and accounted for.
Thank you!
Excellent discussion! I really enjoyed hearing from Jimmy Song! Looking forward to reading “Hazlitt’s Economics in One Lesson” (at Mises.org)! Thanks Drew & Tess for hosting this too!
Buckle up ….. Holochain is coming
