    Hi Michael:

Your website, articles and interviews — are always very informative!

When attempting to buy someones domain name, that has a parked page with no contact info, and then going to the Whois — can lead to a Private registration.

The email address that sometimes is listed, is actually the registrars email, which is suppose to get forwarded to the domain name owner. To rely on this “one way only” point of contact with the owner, seems pretty weak from a business point of view.

Because the email that is hopefully being forwarded may also be going into the owners spam folder, what other options might there be to get in contact with an owner in this case?

    Thank you for your time!

    Hi Brad,

I appreciate your comments about DomainSherpa. It feels great to receive compliments like yours. Thank you.

I, too, have run into this issue. If I send an email, it often is ignored. While interviewing a few people, I have discovered a couple of potential solutions to this situation:

    1. Reach out to Your Network
I had lunch with Ron Jackson and Page Howe yesterday in downtown Chicago after the GeoPublishers.com Expo. It was amazing how many people they know and have bought/sold domains with. And what’s even more amazing are their memories — they could remember the domain names that they sold each other 5 years ago. While I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast yesterday, domain investors clearly are trained to remember their unique assets. And I think it’s likely that if there’s a good domain name you want to inquire about, reaching out to your contacts might be a path to success. I could easily see one of these two gentlemen knowing how owns a specific domain. You might also want to reach out to active brokers like Toby Clements or Andrew Rosener who see a great number of domains a week.

    2. The Registrar Can Be a Bridge
It’s likely that the registrar themselves has a $19 guaranteed contact option or something like that. Perhaps you have a large domain portfolio there and can reach out to your account representative. Or maybe you met a sales person at the last conference you attended — call them and see if they can relay an email message from you to the current registrant.

Just a couple of ideas. Good luck in the pursuit!

    Best,
    Michael

    Hi Michael

Great information on Geo Publishers. It was very informative, and I agree, as in any industry, it’s very helpful to have contacts. I have been researching a number of domain sites, blogs, and domain investors out there, and from most, I have received excellent advice – yours for sure to be included!!!

A little while back due to my inquiries, the planets must have lined up, but I was shocked and received a phone call from one of the titan investors in the industry. We spoke for over an hour, and was a complete inspiration, and contacted several times since.

Now, regarding alternatives for finding the owner of a name in private registration, I will definitely give a shot. Hopefully I can send an email via a registrar contact.

These domain shows seem like they can be very helpful, especially to a novice like myself. I look forward to going to one of them in the near future and learning, and possibly making some more contacts.

I’ll be posting another question shortly.

    Thank you very much, again.

    Brad
